Last week, DroneControl joined forces with Heliguy™ for a live-action demo day at Colne Valley Railway, showcasing the power of next-gen drone operations for emergency response and infrastructure inspection.

We welcomed attendees from 13 organisations, From first responders to infrastructure experts, the day brought together a wide range of professionals to experience DroneControl's capabilities first-hand.

Blue Light Scenarios in Action
We kicked off with two simulated public safety incidents using the DJI M30T and the DroneControl platform.
Scenario 1: Road Traffic Collision
A vehicle had gone off-road and into the water. Attendees used DroneControl’s Remote Viewing Screen feature to control the drone’s payload in real time from their own devices. They identified possible victims and coordinated search efforts live.
Once the drone landed, we demonstrated how DroneControl’s Ecosystem instantly logs all required post-flight data – closing the compliance loop with the CAA’s 32-point checklist in just a few taps.

Scenario 2: “One Under” Rail Incident
In the second emergency scenario, a person had become trapped under a train. Attendees again remotely controlled the drone, located the casualty using the H30T payload, and used the laser rangefinder to guide rescuers to an exact What3Words location.
The Latest Tech in Action
Following the emergency response demonstrations, we moved over to Heliguy's setup for a look at emerging drone technologies and training initiatives:
BVLOS Training: Jack Sharp introduced Heliguy's upcoming Beyond Visual Line of Sight courses, developed with the UK’s leading RAEs.

DJI Matrice 400: Attendees got up close with DJI’s latest flagship drone and saw a short flight demonstration.
National Grid Inspection: We then returned to the DroneControl area to simulate a live inspection of high-voltage infrastructure, guided by members of the National Grid Aviation team.
FlyCart 30 Payload Drop: Tom Anderson piloted DJI’s delivery drone, with Jack Sharp managing the load. Lunch was delivered (and retrieved!) mid-flight — a powerful illustration of logistics applications for drone delivery.

Collaboration and Community
What made this event stand out was the level of hands-on participation. More than half the group stayed on after the scheduled finish time, continuing to engage with DroneControl and Heliguy teams, ask questions, and explore new applications.
We want to extend our sincere thanks to:
Heliguy™ – for their partnership and expert support
Colne Valley Railway – for hosting and accommodating every request
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service – for providing emergency response equipment
