New DroneControl Platform Updates: Smarter Operations, Better Visibility, and Stronger Fleet Management

Over the past few weeks, the DroneControl team has rolled out a number of new features and improvements across both the Flight App and the DroneControl Portal. Some of these updates have appeared quietly in the platform as “soft releases,” but together they represent a significant step forward in operational capability, fleet management, and day-to-day usability for drone teams.

Below is a summary of the latest updates — and why they matter for professional drone operators.

DroneControl Flight App Updates

Gallery Access and Media Management

New functionality now allows operators to manage media directly within the DroneControl Flight App.

Why this matters

Operational teams often need immediate access to captured imagery and video while still in the field. Whether reviewing inspection images, checking mission footage, or validating captured evidence, operators can now quickly access and manage media without leaving the DroneControl environment or switching between multiple applications.

This speeds up field workflows and ensures critical data can be verified immediately after capture.

Thermal Camera Spot Temperature Measurement

When operating in thermal mode, users can now tap anywhere on the screen to instantly display the temperature of the selected spot.

Why this matters

Thermal cameras are widely used in missions such as:

• search and rescue

• fire monitoring

• infrastructure inspection

• industrial diagnostics

Being able to quickly tap a specific location and view the exact temperature enables operators to identify hotspots, monitor heat signatures, and validate anomalies directly during the mission.

This improves situational awareness and allows teams to make faster, more informed decisions in the field.

QR Code Sharing for Drone Location and Laser Range Finder Data

The DroneControl Flight App now supports QR code popups for both the drone’s live location and laser range finder data.

Operators can instantly generate a QR code directly from the app display, allowing other devices to quickly access and use this information.

Why this matters

During operational deployments — particularly in public safety, emergency response, search and rescue, or infrastructure inspections — sharing precise location or measurement data quickly can be critical.

With a simple QR scan, teams can immediately access:

• the live drone location, or

• laser range finder measurement data

This removes the need for manual data transfer or complex setup, enabling faster coordination between teams, command centres, and external stakeholders while maintaining operational efficiency in the field.

User Identification and Quick Sign-Out

The Flight App now displays the user currently logged into the application and provides a quick sign-out option.

Why this matters

For organisations operating shared hardware, it is essential to maintain clear operator accountability and secure device access. The new visibility and quick sign-out feature helps prevent user confusion on shared devices and strengthens operational security.

Remote Viewing Improvements

FPV Camera Stream Support

The Remote Viewing screen now supports FPV (First Person View) camera streaming.

Why this matters

This expands the range of video feeds that can be shared with remote teams. FPV cameras provide an alternative perspective that can be valuable for:

• tactical operations

• infrastructure inspection

• situational awareness

• navigation monitoring

Remote teams can now access more comprehensive visual data from the drone in real time.

Portal Updates

Fleet Management: Inspection Scheduling

A new Inspection Schedule tab has been added within Fleet Management.

Operators can now:

• set inspection dates

• track inspection intervals

• manage compliance schedules across their fleet

Why this matters

Professional drone operations require regular inspections to ensure safety, compliance, and equipment reliability. This new feature allows organisations to manage these checks directly inside DroneControl, helping teams maintain structured maintenance processes and meet regulatory or internal safety requirements.

Fleet Management: Maintenance Scheduling

A Maintenance Schedule tab is now available in Fleet Management.

Users can:

• define maintenance intervals

• track upcoming maintenance

• monitor service history across hardware

Why this matters

For organisations operating multiple aircraft, batteries, and controllers, managing maintenance manually can quickly become complex. Integrating maintenance scheduling directly into DroneControl centralises this information and helps teams maintain operational readiness and hardware longevity.

DJI Flight Record Upload for Every DroneControl Flight

DroneControl now automatically uploads the original DJI flight record file for every flight conducted within the DroneControl Flight App.

This file is available:

• inside the associated flight log

• within the Other Documents section of the portal

It is stored as a connected file linked to the flight log.

Importantly, DroneControl does not generate its own flight log from this file — it is simply preserved as the original manufacturer flight record for reference and download.

Why this matters

Maintaining access to the original DJI flight record provides an additional layer of operational transparency and traceability.

This can be valuable for:

• operational review

• compliance documentation

• incident investigation

• audit trails

• training analysis

By storing the original manufacturer flight record alongside DroneControl’s operational data, teams gain a more complete and verifiable record of each mission.

QR Codes for Streaming Links

The platform now generates QR codes for DroneControl RTMP streaming URLs in Base+, allowing streams to be shared easily outside the portal.

Why this matters

Drone live streaming is most valuable when it can be shared quickly with external stakeholders such as:

• command centres

• emergency response teams

• infrastructure managers

• decision makers

QR-based sharing removes friction and allows viewers to access live streams instantly without needing direct portal access.

Document Management Improvements

DroneControl now includes expanded document management capabilities across the platform.

Users can now:

• Upload team-level documents

• Upload user-specific documents

• Upload documents to individual flight logs

• Upload documents for specific pieces of hardware

Why this matters

Drone operations generate large amounts of documentation — including permits, risk assessments, maintenance records, and operational reports. Centralising these documents inside DroneControl ensures that operational information stays organised, traceable, and accessible to the right team members.

Ongoing Improvements

Alongside these new features, the team has also deployed a range of bug fixes and security updates across the platform to improve reliability and performance.

These ongoing improvements ensure the system remains secure, stable, and ready for mission-critical deployments.

Continuous Development

These updates reflect the continued development of the DroneControl ecosystem, designed to support professional drone teams with a secure, scalable platform for managing drone operations.

Many of these features have been introduced as incremental releases over recent weeks, ensuring users benefit from continuous improvements without disruption.

And as always — more updates are coming soon. 🚀
